Brief Encounter sculpture scheme back on
Campaigners hope a sculpture of Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard, stars of Brief Encounter, can be built in the town.
This comes after an original plan for a sculpture of the film’s director, Sir David Lean, was turned down by his family.

This came after months of talks by Carnforth Town Council about the idea.
But the David Lean Foundation said they would be happy for a statue featuring Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard, who played the romantic leads in the 1945 film about strangers who fall in love at a railway station.
Brief Encounter was part filmed at Carnforth station.
A company in London, Square Rock, will be asked to seek permission for a Johnson and Howard monument in the town.
