Aldi has responded to feedback from InPost users who were hit with £70 fines for using the parcel lockers at some Aldi stores, including the branch in Garstang.

Those using the the locker service outside of the supermarket’s opening hours had been outraged after receiving penalty notices in the post from ParkingEye.

According to InPost, the locker service - situated outside the store - is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, allowing people to collect, send, or return parcels at any time.

But those using the lockers when the Garstang store was closed were slapped with £70 fines after being stung by ANPR cameras, with the car park operator claiming that parking was not permitted during these hours.

The Aldi store - like many in the UK - opens 8am to 10pm, Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.

Anyone who entered the car park outside of these hours was captured on camera and issued with an automatically generated penalty notice from ParkingEye.

Following feedback from InPost users, Aldi has instructed car park operator ParkingEye to increase the free parking allowance to 15 minutes for those using the parcel lockers, allowing more time for collections and drop-offs.

The 15 minutes free parking will be in place at all times, including when the store is closed. Similar allowances have reportedly been introduced at other Aldi stores.

According to Aldi, fines should only be generated by ParkingEye and issued to those who use the car park for more than the 15 minute limit, outside of store opening hours.

Anyone that believes they were issued a fine incorrectly while using the InPost locker can contact Aldi or Parking Eye to request a cancellation.
